Instead, setting specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely (SMART) objectives allows for a more manageable and fulfilling approach to task completion. He emphasizes the importance of being reasonable and gentle with oneself, testing objectives for success before setting shorter timelines, and celebrating each accomplishment to build momentum and energy. JM also discusses the importance of being reasonable with oneself and understanding the principles of Parkinson’s Law, which states that we will take up all the time we allocate to a task. JM also discusses the concept of “big three,” which involves setting a maximum of three big things to accomplish each day, in addition to routine daily tasks. These big three should be specific, concrete, and measurable objectives that will move the needle the most in one’s life.
But this talk goes beyond just goal-setting. JM emphasizes the importance of self-care and being gentle with ourselves as we work toward our objectives. He encourages being gentle with oneself at the beginning and respecting the process of testing and adjusting objectives until they become a successful habit.
